The choice one has in Sydney reads like an atlas of the world, so
enjoy the many dishes on offer out there among the multi cultured
population.
A beer and a meat pie was the traditional cuisine of Australia and
no better place for a nice pie than Harry’s Cafe de Wheels.
The bush tucker which reflects the Aboriginal style dishes is showing
up more and more on menu boards. Since 1993 the restaurants are allowed
to serve Kangaroo meat. The Salt and Darling Mills restaurant has
bush tucker on its menu along with the Edna’s Table restaurant
which is very popular.
Being a city with a large harbour, seafood is also up on most menus,
and the Sydney Fish market has a bountiful supply most days of the
week with box loads of calamari, prawns, mussels, snapper, octopus
and barramundi. There are seafood-only restaurants like the Five
Dock Seafood Cafe, the Fishfix or the Fishface which serve up seafood
only. King Doyles restaurant in Watson’s bay with its beachside
location has a beautiful view and is the oldest fish restaurant in
Sydney.
There is a huge Italian influence when it comes to food in Sydney.
For some great coffee, try the Darlinghurst, Potts Point and Bondi
Beach. Coffee shops like the Gusto or the Parmalat and Bar Coluzzi
are cool places to hang out and have a nice cuppa. Meanwhile in the
city centre, go to MOS cafe. The Italian restaurants on the East
suburbs are Luigi Bros, and Bernasconis.
