Sydney: An Introduction

Sydney is surrounded by water with its white beaches and great architecture. The harbour is its key identity, and is a city that is set in and around the native bushland and has beautiful fertile national parks.

In the Central Business District, Circular Quay is known as the gateway of the harbour. It is a busy anchorage and has a great amount of architecture and national monuments like the Sydney Harbour Bridge as well as the Sydney Opera House.

Just left of Circular Quay one can discover the Rocks, which was infamous as the convict settlement in Australia. The Rocks now has great restaurants and also is very popular at weekends when the Rocks Market takes place and is extremely popular. Up over the Rocks is Observatory Hill which has a great park and an Observatory that is over 150 years old and yet its still functional.

The financial district is South east of the Circular Quay. The State Library of New South Wales and on Macquarie Street there is the Parliament House.

The locals would consider the city centre as Market Street and Pitt Street Mall as well as a collection of interlinked arcades and malls. A real central landmark would be the Centrepoint Shopping Centre which is located at the bottom of the classy AMP Tower.
